Project Graduation 2009
The parents of the Spearman High School Class of 2009 will sponsor and host a "Project Graduation Party" following commencement exercises Friday May 29th. Graduates will be provided with food, games, activities, and fun! In addition, to encourage the graduates to stay the entire night, door prizes are awarded throughout the evening. The graduation party will culminate with the distribution of grand prizes. Prizes, gift certificates, and cash are needed for the evening's gifts. Fund Established for Cross Country Lynxette Championship Rings
A fund has been established at First National Bank, Spearman for the Spearman Lynxettes Cross Country 2008 State Championship Team. The fund has been established to purchase a ring for each team member and their coach in honor of their achievement. The Third Marine Division Association is holding it’s 55th Annual Reunion in San Antonio, TX on August 24-30th. 2009 SHS Year Books on Sale Now
The 2009 Yearbooks are now on sale through March 13, 2009. The cost of the yearbook is $35. All Spearman students should have an order form. Anyone wishing to purchase a yearbook without an order form, may do so at any school principal's office. There will be no extra yearbooks ordered, so it is important that everyone place your order before March 13th. Orders placed after the March 13th deadline, will be $45.

Panhandle Crisis Center in Need of Volunteers
The Panhandle Crisis Center is in great need for Volunteers to operate our Spearman Resale Store on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. The hours would be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Training would be provided and you would be helping us greatly as you work with the public selling items, receiving donated merchandise, and visiting with your hometown friends. IRS won't e-mail you about your refund
If you get an e-mail about your tax refund that appears to be from the Internal Revenue Service, don't be fooled. It's probably coming from internet thieves looking to steal your personal information, like credit card or bank account numbers. "Many folks have tax refunds coming back this time of year, and crooks might take advantage of that fact," said Clay Sanford, a Dallas IRS spokesman. "We just don't send unsolicited e-mails about any subject, including refunds." Sanford said if the IRS needs to contact you, they will generally send a notice or letter through the U. S. Mail. Delete bogus IRS e-mails or forward them to phishing@irs.gov.

WTAMU Offers Two Discover WT Preview Events
West Texas A&M University will host two Discover WT preview events this semester. I’d like to invite you to encourage your juniors and seniors interested in our university to register for one of these events. GHS Baccalaureate Scheduled
I wanted to inform you as soon as possible that due to several issues, Baccalaureate will be held on Wednesday, May 13, at 7:30 at the Gruver United Methodist Church. (The way that the school calendar is set for this year, our usual day to have Baccalaureate, May 24, falls on the weekend of a national holiday; May 17, the band and seniors will be returning from trips; May 10 is Mother’s Day with the Prom being held on May 9.) We have checked with all the churches and the Pastors who participate in the Baccalaureate service, and they all agree that May 13 would be an excellent time to have it. Gruver Elementary is also collecting the pink Box Tops for Education and the yellow UPC bar code Labels for Education from Campbell and Swanson products. You can deposit your register tapes, pink Box Tops and UPC Bar Codes in the Elementary School Lobby, City Library, City Hall, Night & Day Beauty Salon or Hitchin’ Nails Salon. Seniors, senior parents, and parents of college students should use the web site www.fafsa.ed.gov when filling out their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online. There is currently a website that has found an interesting way to get in the college-bound’s pocket. Known as fafsa.com, the website charges a fee for submitting the application. There is no fee for submitting the fafsa form on the www.fafsa.ed.gov site.

The Spearhead AA Group meets every Tuesday at 8 p.m. in the Pittman-Shieldknight building. Breast Cancer Screening Clinic
The Don and Sybil Harrington Cancer Center Comprehensive Breast Center will conduct a Breast Cancer Screening Clinic at Hansford County Hospital, 707 S Roland, in Spearman the fourth Monday of each month. Breast cancer affects one in eight women. The key to winning the battle against cancer is early detection by having an annual breast exam, mammogram and performing a breast self-exam each month. Funding is available through the Texas Department of Health for Texas residents who qualify for assistance. All exams are done by appointment only.
