Gruver High School’s 2011 Homecoming featured the theme “Crazy for the Greyhounds” and was celebrated September 19th-23rd. The Homecoming Queen and Alumni Queen were crowned during the pre-game of Gruver vs. Texico, NM.
The Homecoming Attendants for 2011 were Taylor Felderhoff, Madison McLain & Evelyn Pastrana. Madison McLain was named the Homecoming Queen.
For the first time, 80 years were represented by the Alumni Candidates. Alumni representatives were: 1931 - Bill Etling, 1941 - Estelle Barkley Chambers and Atma Jean Tomlinson McClearey; 1951 - Ted Evans, 1961 - Joy Fulfer Moore and Leon Wilson, 1971 - Floyd Walker and Nancy Zabel Bickings, 1981 - James Heddins and Margaret Garcia Kidine, 1991 - Kyle Haenisch and Marci Roberts, 2001 - Chad TeBeest and Holly Hart McLean, 2011 - Payton Thoreson and Mary Hart.
Estelle Barkley Chambers was named the Alumni Queen.
An Alumni football game was held on Saturday, September 24th at 6:30 p.m. Gruver played West Texas in Greyhound Stadium. An Alumni Dance, sponsored by the Class of 2001, was held at the O’Loughlin Center in Spearman from 8 p.m.-Midnight in Spearman featuring local talent. Proceeds were used for a Memorial Scholarship in honor of classmate Kirby Johnson.

Morgan Ashmore
Morgan is a 17 year old senior at SHS. She is the daughter of Junior and Cindy Ashmore. She has attended Spearman schools for 8 years. Morgan’s activities at SHS include National Honor Society, a volunteer mentor in Big Brother/Big Sisters, and a member of Student Council her freshmen and sophomore year and a class officer her junior year.
She has played on the SHS golf team for three years qualifying for the regional tournament her sophomore year. She has been a SHS cheerleader for 4 years.
Morgan has also played basketball at SHS for the last 3 years. She was chosen MVP of the Vernon Tournament her sophomore and junior year and MVP of the Caprock Tournament her junior year. She was District Newcomer of the Year her freshmen year and District MVP her sophomore and junior year. She was selected on the TGCA All State team her sophomore and junior season, TABC All-Region team her sophomore and junior year, and TABC All-State her junior year. She also was a member of the Amarillo Globes News Super Team as well as the 2A-3A Player of the Year her sophomore & junior year.
Her hobbies are cheerleading, playing basketball and hanging out with friends.
Her future plans are to attend college and play basketball. She wants to be a basketball coach just like her dad but teach science not history.
Malory Martin
Malory Martin is a 17 year old senior at SHS. She is the daughter of Scot and Julie Martin and has attended Spearman schools for 13 years. She is a current member of the National Honor Society and served as Freshman Class President as well as a Student Council member. Malory was a regional qualifier in track her freshman and sophomore years and a regional qualifier in golf her freshman, sophomore, and junior years. Malory played varsity basketball her sophomore, junior, and senior year and was all-district her junior year. She is also a three time state cross country champion. Malory was academic all-district in all sports. Malory was also a cheerleader for three years. Malory is a past FFA treasurer and a current FFA president. She won the Tri-State Fair Grand Champion Pig in 2010 and the Hansford County Grand Champion pig in 2009 and 2010. She won Sr. Showmanship in 2011. Malory is a member of the Torch and United Methodist Youth Groups. Malory was the Homecoming Attendant her sophomore year.

Tylo Farrar
Tylo Farrar is a 17 year old senior at SHS. She is the daughter of Shawn and Tika Farrar and has attended Spearman schools for twelve years. Tylo is a member of NHS and serves on the Student Council and participates in FFA. Tylo participates in Basketball, Track, and Cross Country and is a member of the three time State Champion Team! She was also three time All District and All-State in Cross Country. Tylo is also involved the First Baptist Church Youth Group.

Paige Pierson
Paige Pierson is a 17 year old junior at SHS. She is the daughter of Sam and Brenda Pierson and has attended Spearman schools for ten and a half years. Paige is a member of NHS and Student Council. She served and Class President her freshman and sophomore, and junior years. She participates in tennis and Cross Country and is currently serving as Mascot. Paige is also a Big Sister in the BIGS program.

Ashley Keim
Ashley is a 15 year old sophomore at SHS. She is the daughter of Kyle and Jennifer Keim and has attended Spearman schools for eleven years. Ashley’s activities include cross country, track, and choir. She is a member of the student council this year. Ashley participates in UIL Academics in writing and debate and qualified for regionals in Editorial Writing. Ashley was awarded the English I award, the Speech award and the Debate award her freshman year. She is also a member of the Spearman Swim Club.

Jayme Pack
Jayme is a 15 year old freshman as SHS. She is the daughter of Jay Pack and has attended Spearman schools for ten years. Jayme’s activities include cheerleading, basketball, track and tennis. Jayme is also a member of the Student Council. She has been on the Spearman Stingrays Swim Team since she was five and has qualified for Division 2’s the past six years. She is a member of the first Baptist Church and is active in the Baptist Youth Group. In her spare time, Jayme likes to snow ski, swim and hang out with friends.

Jace Lang-Swan
Jace is an 18 year old senior at SHS. He is the son of Scott Swan and Jeanie Swan and has attended Spearman schools for 13 years. Jace wears number 13 and has played football for six years; three of these years on varsity. Jace’s other activities include basketball, and track. His awards include being chosen Amarillo Globe News Player of the Week in 2008 and Honorable Mention Player of the Week in 2011. He was also named first team all-district outside linebacker in 2010. Jace enjoys hunting, fishing, hanging out with friends, and long walks on the beach. His most memorable football experience was beating Coahoma in the bi-district playoff game last year.
Stefan Cook
Stefan is a 17 year old senior at SHS. He is the grandson of Lynn and Sharion Cook and son of Lyndee Stone and has attended Spearman schools for 12 years. Stefan wears number 82 and has played football for six years; two of these years on varsity. Stefan’s other activities include basketball and track. He is a member of NHS and was elected class favorite his sophomore year. Stefan is a big brother in the BIGS program and is a member of FCA. Stefan enjoys skateboarding, hanging out with friends, and long walks on the beach. His most memorable football experience is making the play-offs for the first time since 2005.
Marc Ortiz
Marc is a 17 year old senior at SHS. He is the son of Rosa Ortiz and has attended Spearman schools for 13 years. Marc wears number 70 and has played football for six years; three of these years on varsity. His other activity is track. Marc was elected 2010 first team all-district offensive lineman and 2010 second team all-district defensive lineman. Marc’s most memorable football experience was when he ran into Justin Rindlisbacher at the WT game last year and THREW him forward to get an extra five yards! Marc’s Motto is NEVER SAY NEVER!!
